Clinical Solutions Medical Training: Research on why humans make errors (Reason, 1990) has identified two types of errors: active and latent. Active errors tend to occur at the level of the individual, and their effects are felt almost immediately. Latent errors are more likely to be beyond the control of the individual, that is, they are errors in system or process design, faulty installation or maintenance of equipment, or ineffective organizational structure. The effects of latent errors may not appear for months or even years, but they can lead to a cascade of active errors, ending in catastrophe.
: Graduates of EMT-Paramedic programs are prepared to assess a patient's condition upon arrival at the scene of distress. They provide advanced medical care on site, as well as transportation to a medical facility if necessary. EMT-Paramedic training is usually offered through community colleges or technical schools and results in a certificate or an associate's degree.
Pancreatitis is a common problem and the serum amylase or lipase should be monitored twice weekly; there is no need to stop treatment if the amylase remains less than four times the upper limit of normal; if the amylase rises above the cut-off then treatment should be interrupted until the amylase falls to less than twice the upper limit of normal, whereupon treatment can be resumed. Cardiac conduction disturbances are less common, but ECG monitoring while the medicine is injected is advisable and changes quickly reverse after the drug is stopped or the infusion rate is decreased.

The current ACLS guidelines are set into several groups of 'algorithms' - a set of instructions that are followed to standardize treatment, and increase its effectiveness. These algorithms usually come in the form of a flowchart, incorporating 'yes/no' type decisions, making the algorithm easier to memorize.
An emergency medical technician (EMT) is responsible for the emergency care of persons requiring medical attention due to an accident, illness or injury. The care provided by an EMT is determined by the amount of training completed and the level reached according to the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or individual state guidelines. The EMT-Paramedic is the most advanced level of training for the field.
Clinical Solutions IV: If there was one thing I heard every single speaker emphasize, it was the need for students to be organized. Organization will minimize the chance for missing assignments, keep needed materials at your fingertips etc. An organized study space limits stress and makes the time spent studying more effective. Keeping everything written down in a calendar was also highly recommended. Everyone has different things that work for them, but one should find a method of organization and stick to it.
